A Google study was recently conducted to learn more about how your accounts are most likely hijacked by hackers and found that from March 2016 to March 2017, 788,000 credentials were stolen via keyloggers, 12 million stolen via phishing, and 3.3 billion were exposed by 3rd party breaches. All in all, cyber crime has become increasingly more attractive to hackers as sensitive consumer data gets sold more and more on the black market.
Ways to prevent hijackers from gaining access from your accounts, Google recommends using password generator tools and activating two-factor authentication to decrease the surface area for attack.
